Turkish Airlines Announced Its Load Factor for December and for the Year 2019

Turkish Airlines added new routes to its flight network, expanded its fleet with new aircraft throughout 2019, maintained its successful performanc­e with its load factor for December, and reached 74.2 million passengers for the 12-month period of 2019.

According to the December 2019 Traffic Results:

• Passenger figures for December 2018 totaling 5.5 million decreased by 0.5% to 5.48 million in the same month of 2019. While passenger numbers on domestic routes decreased by 11.5%, there was an increase of 7.7% on internatio­nal routes.

• The passenger load factor in December 2019 showed a 0.5-point increase, reaching 80.7%.

• While the figure for revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) was 11.5 million in December 2018, this increased by 8.1% reaching 12.5 billion in the same month of 2019. RPK was a decreased of 9.4% on domestic flights, and an increased of 10.7% on internatio­nal flights.

• Internatio­nal passenger figures (excluding internatio­nal-tointernat­ional transfers) showed a 2.8% increase compared with December 2018.

• While the volume of cargo and post carried in December 2018 was 130,048 tons, this increased by 6.0% to 137,882 tons in the same month of 2019.

The regional results for December 2019 were:

• The revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) showed an increase of 14.2% in the Far East, 12.7% in Africa, 7.8% in North America, 5% in Europe, and 1.5% in the Middle East.

• Passenger load factor increased by 4.8% in Central and South America, 3.2% in the Middle East, and 1.3% in North America.

• Passenger numbers increased by 12.3% in the Far East, 9.7% in Africa, 8.1% in North America, and 6.7% in Europe.

Traffic Results for January-December 2019:

• The total number of passengers that was 75.1 million in the period of January-December 2018, decreased by 1.1% to 74.3 million in the same period of 2019. There was a decrease of 7.5% in passenger figures on domestic flights, and a 3.8% increase on internatio­nal flights.

• Compared with the period of JanuaryDec­ember 2018, there was a 5.4% increase in the number of internatio­nal-tointernat­ional transfer passengers.

• Excluding internatio­nal-tointernat­ional transfers, there was a

1.9% increase in internatio­nal transfers compared with the period of JanuaryDec­ember 2018.

• Passenger load factor figures had decreased by 0.3-point to 81.6%.

• The total available seat kilometers (ASK) that was 182 billion in the period of January-December 2018, increased by 3.1% in the same period of 2019, reaching 187.7 billion. While the ASK decreased 6.9% on domestic flights, there was an increase of 4.6% on internatio­nal flights.

• While the RPK of the period JanuaryDec­ember 2018 was 149.1 billion, this increased by 2.7% to 153.2 billion in the same period of 2019. There was a 5.8% RPK decrease on domestic flights and an increase of 4.1% on internatio­nal flights.

• The number of landings of passenger aircraft that was 493,876 in the period of January-December 2018, decreased by 1.4% to 486,894 in the same period of 2019.

• While the volume of cargo and post carried by the flag carrier in the period of January-December 2018 was 1,413,401 tons, this increased by 9.2% to 1,543,028 tons in the same period of 2019.

• Turkish Airlines’ fleet that consisted of 332 aircraft in December 2018 increased to 350 aircraft in December 2019.
