Stone & Life

Dear Readers;

-

We are with you with the new issue of our magazine. We wanted to delay the publication of our journal a little. Because as of the end of the year, we wanted to examine our 2022 export data and our 2023 expectations.

And WE were affacted by the earthquake…

On the day our magazine was uploaded to digital platforms, we woke up with the shock of the century that affected our 10 cities...

I’m SORRY... I’M ANGRY...

As a Geological Engineer, it hurts, I’m damned!

“There are seismic gaps, the lines are stretched The Amik plain is dried, there is dense construction on the alluvial loose ground, there will be liquefaction in the region. The Fault Law must be enacted, ATTENTION. Our Colleagues, Teachers, Scientists, Earthquake Research Centers, Academicians, Chamber of Geological Engineers could not explain the importance of the problem to the relevant authorities. DID NOT UNDERSTAND! THEY DON’T CARE!

EARTHQUAKE; IT WAS COMING WE ARE DESTROYED…

Our pain is so great, there is no recipe...

Unfortunately, tens of thousands of casualties, injured, destroyed buildings and our history buried under the earthquake…

For the cover of our magazine, we chose a work made with natural stones by Mosaic Artist Menel Hüzmeli from Hatay-Antakya. We were able to communicate with him. Our artist is good, thank you very much…

OUR HEART IS IN THE EARTHQUAKE REGION. IT’S TIME TO UNITY, IT’S TIME TO BREAK PAIN...

As for our magazine, which we prepared unaware of what will happen:

You can find numerical data in the following pages of our journal. We could not reach our target of 7.5 million dollars in our total mineral exports for 2022, but we closed our mining exports at the level of 6.5 million dollars with an increase of 9%. In 2022, on the basis of product group, metallic ores took the first place in the export of the mining sector with 2 billion 172 million dollars. Natural stones took the second place with an export of 2 billion 96 million dollars. The third-ranked industrial minerals exports amounted to 1 billion 357 million dollars.

We couldn’t hit the target! This year, however, it seems very difficult for us to reach even these figures. In the period following the Russian Crisis, the recession of the USD and the EU negatively affects not only mines but also many of our export items, especially textiles. The problem in processing plants is huge.

As for our block marble market: China has decided to open its doors. He also determined the date of the Xiamen Fair and announced that it will be international, but there is also a serious contraction there. It was already almost at a standstill due to covid. The Indian market is bustling, in fact, in the absence of China, Indian buyers are using this to their advantage. On the other hand, we are in an electoral economy. The rise in all input costs makes it difficult to stay afloat in an already shrinking market. Of course; When we add the problems of legislation, forestry and license fees… Our job is very difficult…

Still, you should not darken the neck! In the 100th Anniversary of our Republic, we must do our best and even more! Maybe we will reduce our steps a little bit, but we will tighten them; We will continue on our way with the slogan “Mine is our life”, saying “Mine Keeps People Alive”.

We have had elders who passed away in the past 3 months. We lost our Honorary President, my professional elder brother, Raif Türk. And while his pain was still fresh, this time we lost our elder, brother, teacher Yılmaz Selvi, with whom I worked for years at the İzmir Marble Association…

Every death is an early death, and every living thing will taste it sooner or later. But getting used to their absence is not easy. We express our condolences to all his fans and our community, especially their families. Let them sleep in the lights…

We have prepared a full magazine. In our journal; We included the opinions of our NGO Presidents, the projects using natural stones, the performance of our sector in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce elections held on a regional scale, and the design competitions held in the organization of our Exporters’ Associations. We did not forget our corners of Art, Health, Archeology, restoration and legend.

We hope you like it…

Hope to share more good and hopeful news...

Dear readers; Our minds and hearts are in the earthquake zone. Unfortunately, our losses are also increasing due to the earthquake. Our miners… They witness miracles in the earthquake zone. Good thing there are Miners, well, that…

Of course, we will heal these pains too. Oh, if only we could learn lessons...
