The True Story of Folk Remedy

-

It is a common situation for words or phrases that have been spoken for thousands of years to change from ear to ear over time. One such term that has been cherished is the phrase “Old Lady remedy”.

The origin of this expression is “Great Karia medicines”.

The history of the Karia (Karia) civilization, which lived between the Büyük Menderes River and the Dalaman Stream, dates back to BC. It dates back to the 3400’s.

One day, a scream is heard in the garden of the Karia palace. A shout. It belongs to the daughter of the king of Karia. It was bitten by the most venomous snake in the region. 1.5 meters long, gray colored viper. The young girl fell to the ground in pain. His face was bruised, his fever was high, and his delicate body was trembling. He was covered in blood. It was immediately shown to doctors. The physicians summarized the result to the king in one sentence. “Unfortunately.” The Carian princess was going to die. The king was devastated. While her only daughter was dying, she could do nothing. The princess spent the night in fever. His face was swollen. The king awoke with the pain of despair. Doctors said that the young girl would die by the evening. At the head of the king’s daughter, the Carians prayed in the temples. At that moment, they brought news. “My king has a fisherman outside, he says he can save your daughter.” “Get in at once,” said the king, “at once!”

They got it. He was a fisherman from Symi Island. He was the king’s age, tall, with big shoulders, tanned skin, green eyes. Immediately, he took out a wooden box from the leather pouch around his neck, and rubbed the ointment in it all over the young girl’s body. “Don’t worry, my King,” he said, “your daughter won’t die, her swelling will go down tomorrow, and she’ll be up the next day.” The fisherman from Symi learned this ointment from his grandfather, who was a fisherman like himself. It was a balm, a mixture of endemic herbs and moss of the region. They used it on people stung by very poisonous fish and saved them. The next day, what the fisherman said happened. The swelling of the young girl went down, her fever went down. Her delicate body was no longer trembling. The next day, however, he fully recovered and stood up.

The king of Caria immediately gave instructions. “Find the fisherman and bring him to the palace with his family. He will stay here now.” They found it. The king introduced the fisherman from Simi to the palace physicians. And he gave his second instruction; “Scan the mountains, stones, forests in this land. Research all flowers, herbs and plants. Examine the algae in the seas. Make drugs, save people. My kingdom will give you every support in this matter. “

They say that the first scientific medicine step in history was taken that day. They say that the father of medicine, Hippocrates, set out from these steps. They say that this fisherman from Simi is the reason why the first scientific pharmacology center in history was established in Anatolia. And they even say that for hundreds of years, the Carians made hundreds of medicines from herbs and healed thousands of patients.

That’s why the word “Great Carian Medicine” has been used in Anatolia for centuries;

It is used as the “Old Lady Medicine”.
