INSIDER GUIDE
FILIPA FORTUNATO’S LISBON
JARDIM DO TOREL
Jardim do Torel is a magical, secluded garden that sits on a hill overlooking Lisbon and the ocean. It was featured in the film The House of Spirits that stars Jeremy Irons. I love the film and I love this romantic garden. R. Júlio de Andrade.
PRAIA DO GUINCHO, CASCAIS
With its dramatic dunes, endless golden sands and a near-constant breeze that whips your hair around your head, I think this is the best beach in the world. The coast here at Guincho is wild and unspoiled.
IGREJA DE SÃO ROQUE
The earliest Jesuit church in Portugal, this is where António and I got married. Its plain façade belies it dazzling interior – its seven magnificent altars are decorated in gold, amethyst, lapis lazuli, and marble (treasures funded by the discovery of Brazil). Largo Trinadade Coelho.
MERCADO BIOLÓGICO DO PRINCIPE REAL
On Saturday mornings this park is transformed into a bustling outdoor market that sells the best organic food and products in Lisbon. Bargaining is a necessity! Praça do Príncipe Real.
PESCA
This relatively new seafood restaurant is making a splash in Lisbon. The food is courageous and delicious with the added bonus of being 100% sustainable. The space is fitted out like a botanical garden – full of greenery and light but with an intimate atmosphere. Rua da Escola Politécnica 27
