GUGLIELMO POLETTI
Revered gallerist Rossana Orlandi was the first to notice the impactful designs of this young Italian designer. She supported the Design Academy Eindhoven graduate by showing a limited edition of his thesis collection, Equilibrium. It still encapsulates many of the characteristics that typify Poletti’s work. “I’m always exploring the limits of materials in terms of their inherent structural properties,” says the designer. “In Equilibrium, for example, material that is too thin to stand alone becomes structural because it is stretched in a sophisticated way.” Based on careful experiements with materials and construction, Poletti creates simple yet expressive pieces that aims to make the most of the material used, distilled in a minimalist form. While his first designs were created in small series or as individual pieces for galleries, the furniture industry has taken notice and Poletti’s work is now set to be mass-produced.
