Tracing Venice

A site-specific installation composed of mosaic panels of different metals with special finishes, which served as a tribute to Venice and the precious mosaic floors of St. Mark’s Basilica. Design studio Zanellato/Bortotto’s research was interpreted by metal surface specialist De Castelli to tell the centuries-long story of a city exposed to the elements. The resulting intricate works represented the patient and incessant repairs carried out over time on the decorations of the cathedral and a poetic metaphor for the fragility and resilience of the lagoon city in resisting the erosive force of the sea.
