Blue, Period.

Paola Navone’s love of the colour means her work – including bold new designs for Turri – is awash with it

- T.C.

As Yves Klein, who arguably dreamed up the most perfect expression of the colour, said: “Blue has no dimensions; it is beyond dimensions, whereas the other colours are not.” Paola Navone has clearly taken this pronouncement to heart. Her live-work space in Milan’s Tortona district is awash with every hue of blue from cerulean to sapphire, and the iconic septuagenarian designer is often dressed in indigo batik prints (a nod to the years she spent living and working in Asia in the 1980s and ‘90s).

Navone has also used the colour repeatedly in interior design projects and on products for companies as diverse as Armani Casa and Crate & Barrel. Her latest furniture collection, a capsule for Italian brand Turri, is rendered in an intense lapis lazuli. Dubbed Azul House, it includes seating in opulent fabrics (the woven velvet sofa is a winner), an oversized, lantern-esque pendant, and a show-stopping dining table with a swooping tubular metal base, topped with marble. It’s all joyously colourful, deliciously irreverent and unmistakably Navone’s work. turri.it -
