Whether you want to ski or just enjoy the snow, here’s where to enjoy both without breaking the bank

1 Georgia: We recommend visiting Tbilisi for a few days to get a city experience. After all, it doesn’t make much sense to go to Georgia without visiting its capital, which is famous for its delicious dining options and contemporary nightlife scene. But the best winter attraction will have to be the stunning Caucasus mountain area.

We recommend the luxurious Rooms Hotel located near the country’s third highest mountain, Kazbegi. If you wish to ski, opt for Marco Polo Hotel in Gudauri ski resort.

2 Russia: You can’t do winter in Russia without experiencing winter in Sochi. Or at least, you shouldn’t. It entered the world stage when it hosted the Winter Olympics in 2014 and it is now one of the most popular destinations for locals as well as foreign tourists for great skiing and slightly milder winters than the rest of the country. Krasnaya Polyana has four ski complexes, but the city itself also boasts art galleries and museums.

The best part? Hotels are very affordable. We like Gorky Hotel the most as it offers ski-in and ski-out as well as vast mountain views.

3 Hungary: Its capital is called the Paris of the East for a reason, and Hungary’s Budapest is actually a much more affordable Paris.

Many argue that it’s best witnessed during winter, when the streets are filled with festive markets and bright decorations. Its majestic architecture and vintage cafes make it a romantic destinations for couples, too. It has many budget hotels including The Aquincum Hotel Budapest.

4 Lebanon: It’s mostly popular for its summertime vacations when the sun is shining, the beach clubs are full and the nightlife is buzzing, but if you’re looking for a calmer winter in the mountains, Lebanon is an affordable and accessible holiday destination.

Go to Faraya, north of Beirut, for a cozy ski getaway. We recommend InterContinental Mzaar for a luxury experience.

After a day on the slopes, try traditional restaurant Jalset Al Erzal. While you’re there, head to Bcharre, the birthplace of Lebanese writer and poet Khalil Gibran.
