UNRWA chief hails Kuwait, GCC for their financial support
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) commissionergeneral Pierre Krahenbuhl praised last Monday Kuwait and other GCC countries’ important contributions.
On the sidelines of UNRWA consultation committee meetings, Krahenbuhl thanked Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the
UAE for their donations – $50m each – which represented half of the new amount needed to put an end to the cumulative deficit of UNRWA.
The UNRWA chief also praised the European Union, namely Germany, Britain, Sweden, Italy, France, and Spain for their efforts not only in providing aid but also increasing their donations.
Krahenbuhl said the UN body made a full review of its work and its accomplishments, including efforts to bring the financial support needed for the agency.
Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al Otaibi handed UNRWA $42.1m to support its activities.
