Chair­man and man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Lulu Group Re­tail $6bn

IT HAS BEEN AN­OTHER stel­lar year for Lulu Group In­ter­na­tional. In the Philip­pines, a lo­gis­tics and ex­port cen­tre will in­crease the com­pany’s foot­print in Asia. Mean­while, its hyper­mar­ket brand this sum­mer an­nounced plans to in­vest $270m in Saudi Ara­bia by 2020, with an­other 15 hy­per­mar­kets due in the next 18 months. And an­other $500m will be in­vested in Egypt, ad­ding four new hy­per­mar­kets.

It con­tin­ues to push into India in hos­pi­tal­ity, IT and con­struc­tion, with $2bn set aside to build malls, ho­tels, con­ven­tion cen­tres among oth­ers, in­clud­ing five mil­lion sq ft of IT space in Kochi by 2021.

In Jan­uary, Lulu Group was ranked in the top 250 re­tail­ers in the world by Deloitte in its Global Power of Re­tail­ing 2018.

With a $6.9bn turnover, Lulu Group In­ter­na­tional has 144 stores across 21 coun­tries glob­ally, em­ploy­ing over 40,000 peo­ple. Lit­tle won­der, then, that ear­lier this month Lulu Group won the Brand of the Year award in the re­tail cat­e­gory at the World Brand­ing Awards in Lon­don. Yusuf­fali MA also re­ceived an hon­orary doc­tor­ate from Mid­dle­sex Univer­sity ear­lier this month.
