Chairman and managing director Lulu Group Retail $6bn
IT HAS BEEN ANOTHER stellar year for Lulu Group International. In the Philippines, a logistics and export centre will increase the company’s footprint in Asia. Meanwhile, its hypermarket brand this summer announced plans to invest $270m in Saudi Arabia by 2020, with another 15 hypermarkets due in the next 18 months. And another $500m will be invested in Egypt, adding four new hypermarkets.
It continues to push into India in hospitality, IT and construction, with $2bn set aside to build malls, hotels, convention centres among others, including five million sq ft of IT space in Kochi by 2021.
In January, Lulu Group was ranked in the top 250 retailers in the world by Deloitte in its Global Power of Retailing 2018.
With a $6.9bn turnover, Lulu Group International has 144 stores across 21 countries globally, employing over 40,000 people. Little wonder, then, that earlier this month Lulu Group won the Brand of the Year award in the retail category at the World Branding Awards in London. Yusuffali MA also received an honorary doctorate from Middlesex University earlier this month.
