Lebanon and the UK forge closer economic ties
SIMON PENNEY, HER MAJESTY’S Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, met with key Lebanese economic officials during a two-day trip, his first to the country since assuming his role in October.
During his visit, Penney met with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, as well as its Minister of Trade and Economy and the heads of Lebanon’s various trade and economic associations and the UK-Lebanon tech hub.
“I had excellent meetings across the board with government officials and the private sector,” he said in a statement. “We want to work in partnership with business and government to identify opportunities for greater collaboration; we believe that the true potential of opportunities between Lebanon and the UK has not yet been tapped.”
Penney added that there are considerable PPP opportunities in infrastructure and energy, which have significant potential for UK firms to partner with Lebanese companies.
The meeting came just weeks ahead of the highlyanticipated Lebanon-UK Business & Investment
Forum, which will be held on December 12 in London.
