Pierre and Cedric Koukjian create designs that stretch the imagination

Cedric Koukjian and his father Pierre have built a family business grounded in their mutual love of design. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the father and son duo established Since design studio last year, and have focused on creating contemporary design-art pieces that transcend boundaries. “We try to present a childlike and dreamy state of mind though our work,” explains Cedric.

From miniature carvings to huge sculptures, the studio creates art pieces, furniture and lighting from a range of materials including marble, concrete and carbon polymers. “Part of our goal as designers is to be as experimental as possible,” says Cedric. “We love combining materials to surprise people.”

The Sprout, one of Pierre’s signature works, does just that. Described as ‘a bendy and rounded hammered stainless steel interpretation of the magic bean’ in the fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk, the sculpture is a prime example of the designers’ imaginative play on material. The resin Bubble bucket, and the leather Cocoa sofa, which looks like a melting chocolate bar, are equally playful. What can we expect next from the Koukjians? “We prefer to take life day by day and do our best in the present,” Cedric adds. Watch this space. sincefineart.com
