FOUNT OF WISDOM
Emerging as a Muslim educational hub in the heart of London’s King’s Cross, the new Aga Khan Centre infuses Islamic architecture into a series of six courtyards,
terraces and gardens. The Maki & Associates-designed, 10,000 square metre building includes offices, a library and exhibition space as well as expansive gardens, most prominent of which is the Garden of Tranquillity, shown here. Inspired by covered loggias found in the Middle East, Persia and Egypt, the garden
gives a modern twist to an ancient symbol of Islamic history.
