A group of five stakeholder organisations active within the aviation and aerospace industry are set to launch a global study, which will explore new ways to boost the recruitment and advancement of women in aviation leadership roles.

Set to release in the second quarter of 2019, the joint study will examine the causes of any barriers of advancement, as well as highlight practices and poli- cies that have found success in promoting gender diversity in leadership.

It is hoped that the study will assist in addressing the substantial gap of female leadership in aviation. Such is the case with the American aerospace workforce, where less than one quarter are women and an even smaller percentage hold leadership roles.

As part of the study, a global survey and interviews with women, HR leaders, organisation leaders, and education lead- ers, will be conducted. The study will also examine case studies on success stories in the industry, as well as a review of previously released studies and literature related to the advancement women, both in aviation and in other industries.

The five stakeholder organisations for the project are the Aerospace Industries Association, Airports Council International, International Air Transport Association, International Aviation Women Association, and Korn Ferry – Civil Aviation Practice.
