Marriott to double regional luxury portfolio
MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL plans to double its Middle East and Africa luxury portfolio to 60 hotels in the next five years.
Speaking at an event on the lawns of RitzCarlton Dubai, Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director, Middle East & Africa, said luxury remains “fundamental to our success”. Eight of Marriott’s 30 brands occupy the top tier.
Bulgari Resort Dubai is due to open early December and new year launches include St. Regis Cairo, W Dubai Palm Jumeirah, St Regis Amman and W Amman, and a Luxury Collection hotel in Aqaba. Next year is also shaping up to be a key year for the Edition brand, with eight properties on the anvil, including one in Abu Dhabi.
Lisa Holladay, Global brand leader for Ritz- Carlton and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, flew in from Washington DC to attend the dinner. She said newly enlarged Marriott International now features 380 high-end properties across 60 countries following the Starwood takeover.
“At some point we are going to have to decide whether we start saying nine luxury brands, as we have another brand extension – the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection,” she said. The first of three yachts is due to set sail in 2019.
