Mar­riott to dou­ble re­gional lux­ury port­fo­lio

MAR­RIOTT IN­TER­NA­TIONAL plans to dou­ble its Mid­dle East and Africa lux­ury port­fo­lio to 60 ho­tels in the next five years.

Speak­ing at an event on the lawns of RitzCarl­ton Dubai, Alex Kyr­i­akidis, Pres­i­dent and Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, Mid­dle East & Africa, said lux­ury re­mains “fun­da­men­tal to our suc­cess”. Eight of Mar­riott’s 30 brands oc­cupy the top tier.

Bul­gari Re­sort Dubai is due to open early De­cem­ber and new year launches in­clude St. Regis Cairo, W Dubai Palm Jumeirah, St Regis Am­man and W Am­man, and a Lux­ury Col­lec­tion ho­tel in Aqaba. Next year is also shap­ing up to be a key year for the Edi­tion brand, with eight prop­er­ties on the anvil, in­clud­ing one in Abu Dhabi.

Lisa Hol­la­day, Global brand leader for Ritz- Carl­ton and St. Regis Ho­tels & Re­sorts, flew in from Wash­ing­ton DC to at­tend the din­ner. She said newly en­larged Mar­riott In­ter­na­tional now fea­tures 380 high-end prop­er­ties across 60 coun­tries fol­low­ing the Star­wood takeover.

“At some point we are go­ing to have to de­cide whether we start say­ing nine lux­ury brands, as we have another brand ex­ten­sion – the Ritz-Carl­ton Yacht Col­lec­tion,” she said. The first of three yachts is due to set sail in 2019.
