CAMPBELL GRAY HOTELS will open a boutique art hotel in Bahrain this month, as the Kingdom broadens its hospitality offering.

The 46-room Merchant House hotel, close to the souk, joins the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) portfolio and will post rates of BD90 in December, with a second night free. Features include a curated library, small meeting room, pool, terrace and restaurant.

“It was a fairly ordinary 1960s building but we’ve kept the concrete pillars, and introduced lots of colour and some serious art – it’s going to be quite a jewel,” said Chairman and Director Gordon Campbell Gray. “I think there is a big move towards small hotels and a sense of brand fatigue.” The Machrie Hotel and Golf Links on Islay in Scotland reopened last summer.

Indian mid-priced operator, Lemon Tree Hotels, aims to enter Dubai in Q3 next year with an 114-room hotel on Al Wasl Road.
