Ascott opens first African residence

THE OPENING OF Kwarleyz Residence in Accra marks The Ascott Limited’s first property in Africa. Overlookin­g Kofi Annan Street in the Airport Residentia­l Area, the 40-unit serviced residence contains studios and apartments.

The operator, which has also secured a contract to manage Ascott 1 Oxford Street in the same city this year, anticipate­s strong business travel demand.

Thomas Wee, Ascott’s Deputy Managing Director for the Middle East, Africa, Turkey & India, said it sees potential for serviced residences in Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal and “will explore opportunit­ies” in Nairobi, Kigali and Addis Ababa.
