Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo

-

BACKGROUND This is the lifestyle and design brand of Hyatt and the Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo marked the brand’s debut in the Asia Pacific region, when it opened its doors in early 2018. The hotel targets millennials along with design and fashion conscious travellers.

WHAT’ S IT LIKE? The street entrance is extremely discreet, tucked away in a quiet Ginza lane. You take an elevator up to the main lobby, where you are instantly immersed in the hotel’s gorgeous avant garde design. Throughout the hotel, there are the underlying themes of art, fashion, the world of magazines and pop culture, which is seen through paintings, posters, bookshelves and installations. The vibe is decidedly younger and trendier.

WHERE IS IT? It is situated at the heart of the Ginza district, which is famous for its luxury fashion stores.

The hotel is tucked away in a sophisticated lane, lined with watch boutiques, and away from the crowded main Ginza streets. It is a short drive from Tokyo Station.

ROOMS Each of the rooms features a beautiful, colourful and modern aesthetic. I stayed in a Standard room, which featured pop-culture elements, plush linen, an innovative workspace that optimises the use of space. The room also came with a Nespresso machine, a Bluetooth speaker and bathroom amenities by Beekind.

FOOD AND DRINK The hotel’s all-day restaurant Namiki667 (See page 80 for its review) is a great place to get a quick meal between business meetings and shopping marathons. The restaurant focuses on oven-based-slow-cooked cuisine with fresh ingredients. Don’t forget to check out the adjoining Namiki667 bar, perfect for post-work sundowners.

MEETINGS This property features flexible private event spaces, which can be customised depending on the size of your event. The restaurant spaces can also be booked out and modified for events.

LEISURE Check out the 24-hour fitness centre, packed with high-tech equipment, yoga mats and more.

VERDICT A great place to base yourself on a business or shopping trip to downtown Tokyo. Riaan Jacob George
