Au­gus­tus to launch ‘post-ca­ble’ chan­nel

Au­gus­tus, the me­dia com­pany be­hind the Lovin’ Dubai and Lovin’ Saudi brands, is launch­ing Smashi TV, which it de­scribed as “a busi­ness news net­work stream­ing live from the heart of the Arab world, cover­ing the most in­no­va­tive prod­ucts, ser­vices and tech­nolo­gies chang­ing our lives”. It is “a voice for the ex­cit­ing en­tre­pre­neur­ial space, the dy­namic busi­ness deals and the in­no­va­tive tech­nolo­gies be­ing cre­ated in the Mid­dle East”.

Au­gus­tus ex­plained: “Smashi is the first post-ca­ble TV net­work of its kind for the Arab world, stream­ing live on so­cial me­dia, app and OTT stream­ing de­vices.” It will be in Ara­bic only, with live English trans­la­tions pow­ered by AI. The first shows will launch in Jan­uary 2019.

Richard Fitzger­ald, founder and man­ag­ing di­rec­tor of Au­gus­tus, said: “Be­ing in­volved in the start-up ecosys­tem in the past few years in KSA and UAE, we felt there was an op­por­tu­nity for an out­let to bring all the fas­ci­nat­ing sto­ries tak­ing place to a larger au­di­ence. That, mar­ried with the shift in me­dia con­sump­tion to stream­ing TV chan­nels, is where the idea for Smashi was born”.
