Augustus to launch ‘post-cable’ channel
Augustus, the media company behind the Lovin’ Dubai and Lovin’ Saudi brands, is launching Smashi TV, which it described as “a business news network streaming live from the heart of the Arab world, covering the most innovative products, services and technologies changing our lives”. It is “a voice for the exciting entrepreneurial space, the dynamic business deals and the innovative technologies being created in the Middle East”.
Augustus explained: “Smashi is the first post-cable TV network of its kind for the Arab world, streaming live on social media, app and OTT streaming devices.” It will be in Arabic only, with live English translations powered by AI. The first shows will launch in January 2019.
Richard Fitzgerald, founder and managing director of Augustus, said: “Being involved in the start-up ecosystem in the past few years in KSA and UAE, we felt there was an opportunity for an outlet to bring all the fascinating stories taking place to a larger audience. That, married with the shift in media consumption to streaming TV channels, is where the idea for Smashi was born”.
