HOW REGIONAL AGENCIES FARED AT THE D& AD AWARDS.

The region has taken home five Wood Pencils and 18 shortlists from the Design and Art Direction (D&AD) Awards in London. One victorious chief creative officer called the show “the Champions League final of advertisin­g”.

All the Pencils (the D&AD’s trophies are pencil-shaped) were won by UAE-based agencies, while Egypt got two shortlists and Saudi Arabia was a contender once.

FP7 McCann Dubai won a Wood Pencil in the Integrated category for its Al Umobuwah: Putting ‘Mum’ into ‘Parenthood’ campaign for Babyshop. The same campaign was shortliste­d in the Use of Integrated and Design/Brands categories.

TBWA/Raad’s Highway Gallery for Louvre Abu Dhabi won a Wood Pencil for Innovative Use of Radio and Audio, and was shortliste­d in Use of Radio and Audio, Use of Press and Outdoor, and Out-Of-Home.

Impact BBDO won two Wood Pencils with its Mutilated Words work for 28 Too Many. These were in the Posters and Direct Response/ Press & Poster categories.

The same agency was shortliste­d for La Libanaise Des Jeux’s The Blank Edition in Out-Of-Home, Creative Use of Media and Advertisin­g/ Brand. And again for The Toxic Flag in Installati­on Design, for The Waste Management Coalition.

VMLY&R won a Wood Pencil with One Art for the Interrelig­ious Council in Bosnia & Herzegovin­a in the Public Service Poster Advertisin­g category. The campaign was also shortliste­d in Poster Advertisin­g Campaigns and in Design/Not for Profit. The same agency and client pairing was shortliste­d too for One in the Logos category.

Memac Ogilvy Dubai was shortliste­d for Ikea UAE’s Ikea Sömnig in the Press Advertisin­g Inserts & Wraps category. Grey MENA’s Never Gets Old for The Lego Group was shortliste­d in the Press Advertisin­g Campaigns category.

DDB Egypt’s Job Interview for Unilever Egypt was shortliste­d in Radio Advertisin­g Over 30 Seconds.

Unilever Egypt was also the client for Good People’s Alphabet of Cheering shortlist in the Motion Graphics category.

J. Walter Thompson made it to the shortlist in Casting for Film Advertisin­g with What Are We Allowing? for Saudi Telecom Company.
