Caterer Middle East spoke with Jan Holzapfel, owner of J.T. Ronnefeldt KG, about how its passion for tea is bringing new experiences to customers
Give us a brief about Ronnefeldt and its products.
Ronnefeldt stands for top tea quality in the worldwide hospitality industry. We are searching the best teas - mostly hand plucked ‘two leaves and one bud’ - from famous gardens in India, Sri Lanka, China, and Japan and recently in new world countries such as New Zealand, Colombia, and Tanzania. Hotel guests and travellers from all over the world appreciate the variety of fine aromas, fragrances, and flavours.
Have you introduced any new product ranges recently? If so, please provide details about these new products and why they are important?
We constantly improve ourselves with innovations and trendy products. As the answer to the modern perspective of today’s world, we have launched SimplictiTea. A sophisticated capsule which guarantees wonderful tea taste experience within seconds.
The six new SimpliciTea flavours from Ronnefeldt are compatible with all Nespresso capsule machines. Simple and easy: The water pressure of the Nespresso machine replaces the brewing time. On the other hand we see the need for top exclusive products to differentiate from the ordinary standard. The Teastar Collection is our answer for this niche market and requires trained tea experts, e.g. Ronnefeldt TeaMasters who consult their guests in the special choice of utmost tea pleasure.
And we go even a step further and offer instead of a classic tea cup an elegant gourmet glass that can withstand a 100 degree temperature. A whole new olfactory experience will leave the customer with a joyful memory pairing his food by enjoying the shining colours, the bouquet, and the aroma developing in the mouth.
Which hotels or restaurants have you recently partnered with? Can you share details?
Currently two dozen trained TeaMasters are working in the best and most prestigious hotels in the United Arab Emirates. In the latest class, candidates from One&Only Royal Mirage, Atlantis The Palm, Kempinski Emirates Palace, Sofitel, Mövenpick, the Meydan Hotel, InterContinental, Chedi
Muscat and Fairmont Fujairah enhanced their tea skills. The unique Ronnefeldt TeaMaster Program has been in operation since 2003. Service personnel from the best hotels earn the qualification of TeaMaster Silver or Gold in the multilevel program with theoretical knowledge of the most important tea cultivation areas, plucking and processing methods. The practical component includes learning different tasting techniques and several methods of preparation and presentation. The training for TeaMaster Gold is real on-the-job training and takes place in the tea gardens of Sri Lanka.
Why should the hospitality industry work with you and your products?
We might not be the biggest tea producer, but we are certainly one of the most passionate ones. We commit to our philosophy of quality, sustainability, and loyal partnerships to our stake and shareholders. We were dealing with loose leaf tea before it was even cultivated in India and Sri Lanka. We survived a as family-owned business for almost two centuries. We constantly develop our tea concepts according to the global markets needs and cosmopolitan tea trends as we have our ear in every hot spot through our well established network of trusted partners. We develop individual customised solutions as we did it with our Moroccan Mint, Oriental Oolong, and a special strong breakfast tea.
