Caterer Mid­dle East spoke with Jan Holzapfel, owner of J.T. Ron­nefeldt KG, about how its pas­sion for tea is bring­ing new ex­pe­ri­ences to cus­tomers

Give us a brief about Ron­nefeldt and its prod­ucts.

Ron­nefeldt stands for top tea qual­ity in the world­wide hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try. We are search­ing the best teas - mostly hand plucked ‘two leaves and one bud’ - from fa­mous gar­dens in In­dia, Sri Lanka, China, and Ja­pan and re­cently in new world coun­tries such as New Zealand, Colom­bia, and Tan­za­nia. Ho­tel guests and trav­ellers from all over the world ap­pre­ci­ate the va­ri­ety of fine aro­mas, fra­grances, and flavours.

Have you in­tro­duced any new prod­uct ranges re­cently? If so, please pro­vide de­tails about these new prod­ucts and why they are im­por­tant?

We con­stantly im­prove our­selves with in­no­va­tions and trendy prod­ucts. As the an­swer to the mod­ern per­spec­tive of to­day’s world, we have launched Sim­plic­tiTea. A so­phis­ti­cated cap­sule which guar­an­tees won­der­ful tea taste ex­pe­ri­ence within sec­onds.

The six new Sim­pli­ciTea flavours from Ron­nefeldt are com­pat­i­ble with all Ne­spresso cap­sule machines. Sim­ple and easy: The wa­ter pres­sure of the Ne­spresso ma­chine re­places the brew­ing time. On the other hand we see the need for top ex­clu­sive prod­ucts to dif­fer­en­ti­ate from the or­di­nary stan­dard. The Teas­tar Col­lec­tion is our an­swer for this niche mar­ket and re­quires trained tea ex­perts, e.g. Ron­nefeldt TeaMasters who con­sult their guests in the spe­cial choice of ut­most tea plea­sure.

And we go even a step fur­ther and of­fer in­stead of a clas­sic tea cup an el­e­gant gourmet glass that can with­stand a 100 de­gree tem­per­a­ture. A whole new ol­fac­tory ex­pe­ri­ence will leave the cus­tomer with a joy­ful mem­ory pair­ing his food by en­joy­ing the shin­ing colours, the bou­quet, and the aroma de­vel­op­ing in the mouth.

Which ho­tels or restau­rants have you re­cently part­nered with? Can you share de­tails?

Cur­rently two dozen trained TeaMasters are work­ing in the best and most pres­ti­gious ho­tels in the United Arab Emi­rates. In the lat­est class, can­di­dates from One&Only Royal Mi­rage, At­lantis The Palm, Kempin­ski Emi­rates Palace, Sof­i­tel, Möven­pick, the Mey­dan Ho­tel, In­ter­Con­ti­nen­tal, Chedi

Mus­cat and Fair­mont Fu­jairah en­hanced their tea skills. The unique Ron­nefeldt TeaMaster Pro­gram has been in op­er­a­tion since 2003. Ser­vice per­son­nel from the best ho­tels earn the qual­i­fi­ca­tion of TeaMaster Sil­ver or Gold in the mul­ti­level pro­gram with the­o­ret­i­cal knowl­edge of the most im­por­tant tea cul­ti­va­tion ar­eas, pluck­ing and pro­cess­ing meth­ods. The prac­ti­cal com­po­nent in­cludes learn­ing dif­fer­ent tast­ing tech­niques and sev­eral meth­ods of prepa­ra­tion and pre­sen­ta­tion. The train­ing for TeaMaster Gold is real on-the-job train­ing and takes place in the tea gar­dens of Sri Lanka.

Why should the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try work with you and your prod­ucts?

We might not be the biggest tea pro­ducer, but we are cer­tainly one of the most pas­sion­ate ones. We com­mit to our phi­los­o­phy of qual­ity, sus­tain­abil­ity, and loyal part­ner­ships to our stake and share­hold­ers. We were deal­ing with loose leaf tea be­fore it was even cul­ti­vated in In­dia and Sri Lanka. We sur­vived a as fam­ily-owned busi­ness for al­most two cen­turies. We con­stantly de­velop our tea con­cepts ac­cord­ing to the global mar­kets needs and cos­mopoli­tan tea trends as we have our ear in ev­ery hot spot through our well es­tab­lished net­work of trusted part­ners. We de­velop in­di­vid­ual cus­tomised so­lu­tions as we did it with our Moroccan Mint, Ori­en­tal Oo­long, and a spe­cial strong break­fast tea.
