Nando’s UAE to prioritise hiring women according to recently appointed MD George Kunnappally
Currently less than 20% of its workforce is female
Nando’s UAE MD George Kunnappally has said that the firm is aiming to prioritise the hiring of female staff as women currently make up l ess than 20% of its workforce.
Speaking exclusively to Caterer Middle East, Kunnappally said the peri-peri chicken brand will be holding open houses in a bid to bring in new staff.
“We are prioritising hiring more women in the workplace, whether it is in the front-of-house or the back-of-house, and we believe that’s something we need to emphasise as part of our values,” he said, giving a target of increasing the number t o 30-40% of the ent ire workforce.
Although there is a large gender imbalance at its branches, Kunnappally said the difference is less pronounced at corporate level. “We are extremely proud that many of our key functions are headed by women. Marketing is headed by a lady, operations is headed by a lady, human resources is headed by a lady. We need to achieve that balance in our restaurants .”
Kunnappally has been in the role for just over three months and increasing the gender equality of the brand is only one of t he ideas he has for the future of Na ndo's.
