Why Priyanka Chopra is our it Girl of the week

-

T he Quantico star has never failed to mesmerise us – be it her performance in Baywatch or her red carpet appearances. She always knew how to spin the world around her fingers with her charm and wit. Priyanka Chopra, aka PC, rose to international fame with her popular series Quantico in which she played the character of Alex Parrish, an F.B.I recruit. She might be Alex Parrish , Quantico star or Nick Jones’s girlfriend, but to Mumbai she is their very own PC. Let’s find more about the Desi Girl.

Humble Beginnings

She is amongst a brood of actors who do not belong to a film background. Her father Ashok and mother Madhu Chopra were both physicians in the Indian Army. Due to her parents’ occupation, the family kept shifting to numerous places in India. At the age of 13, she shifted to the US where she continued her education. She has often spoken about how she faced racial abuse and was bullied about the way she looked when growing up. And to this day, she has been vocal about such issues. After three years, she returned to India to continue her studies.

Rise to Miss World

The year 2000 was a promising year for young Chopra. Her mother entered her name in the Femina Miss India contest and she won the title. From there on, there was no looking back for PC. Later that year, she won the Miss World – and media celebrated her victory.

Small town to B-town

After the pageant, she started receiving a lot of movie offers. Her debut film was a South Indian film titled Thamizhan (2002) in which she starred alongside Vijay. She made her Bollywood debut with the film The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003), which was also the highest grossing Bollywood film that year. Even though she did quite a few movies, not all of them were box office hits. Later that year, the movie that garnered her a lot of attention was Waqt: The Race Against Time, starring her alongside Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachan. Yet another ground-breaking film of hers was Fashion (2008) which put the spotlight on the hidden side of the industry. This role got her many prestigious awards, including the Rajat Kamal Award for the Best Actress. Though she did a lot of commercially successful movies, they were not as memorable as her roles in films like Barfi, Mary

Kom, Fashion and Bajirao Mastani.

Controversial affairs

She is one actress who has maintained a dignified silence about her rumored link ups with stars like Akshay Kumar, Harman Bhaweja, Shahid Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan. Worst of all was the rumoured link up with SRK that spread like wildfire, with many reports of Gauri Khan and her inner circle ‘cold shouldering’ the actress at public events.

Music career

Chopra often said it was her father who inspired her to sing. So in 2012, she collaborated with Sam Watters, Mathew Koma and Jay Sean. The album was produced by RedOne. Her first single In My

City trended at Number One on social media platforms like Twitter. In 2013 she released her second single, Exotic, featuring American rapper Pitbull. The song debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard Dance/ Electronic charts. She also lent her voice to a lullaby for Mary Kom (2014) called Chaora.
