The Honeyz’ Celena Cherry brings you a night brunch

THEY EPITOMISED THE R&B sounds of the late nineties in Britain and Honeyz lead singer Celena Cherry is looking to do the same for you over a night brunch… yep, you read correctly!

The Hideout Dubai at the Marina Byblos Hotel is bringing us its Winter Wonderland, a Christmas themed brunch every evening of the week - with all the trimmings, including snow. Launching tonight, the establishment wants to start off with two phenomenal artists performing together for the weekend. From 8pm today and tomorrow, Christmas officially begins with Jimmy from the popular British boy band 911 alongside songbird Celena. Both will perform classic tracks from the ‘90s and ‘00s. We caught up with Celena to find out more.

As Christmas is coming, what will you be doing for the festivities?

I’ll be spending it with my family: my husband and children and enjoying some well deserved rest.

What can we expect from your Hideout set?

I’m going to be performing some Honeyz songs, some soul covers and of course Christmas songs!

What would your advice be for those looking to get into the industry?

It’s a very different industry now to when I first found success. I wouldn’t be able to give advice as, even if I wanted to do it now, I wouldn’t know how. My best memories of being in the Honeyz were before we were famous and we were three girls with a dream that came true. We had no money but a lot of love and passion. Our best gig was when we did a duet with Lionel Richie! The biggest challenges were sticking together!

How does the Honeyz name help you with your gigs?

As well as being a solo artist I do still perform with the Honeyz so I have the best of both worlds right now, which I love. The Honeyz name helps me a lot because that’s what I’m known for and it will always be a major part of me for the rest of my life.

How does it feel to look back over the band’s achievements?

I’m really proud of what we achieved. We all came from nothing with a dream and made it happen. People’s lives and egos got in the way when it was too much to handle. If I could do it all again I would try harder to keep the group together. As an adult now I can see what mistakes we all made and how we could’ve handled things differently. We currently gig just two of us - myself and Mariama - as Honeyz and that really works.

Is there anything further you’d like to achieve in your career?

I’ve always wanted to perform in Australia again and acting wise I’m still waiting for my big break in a soap opera. There’s still time.
