Storytelling as an art has been elevated into a whole new level as recent world events show us. Narratives. Perspectives. Optics. There are so many elements at play even in the most simplistic turn of events. In today’s world of hyper social media consumption where our perception of reality is constantly being challenged and heavily edited videos are created and disseminated in record time to be consumed by gullible viewers across the world, it is extremely important to be aware of optics. That is why events like the ongoing Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is significant, where the written word is exalted and the power of authentic, bona fide narration is celebrated. In the case of our cover story today on reality star Kylie Jenner’s (ex?) bestie Jordyn Woods, again perspective comes to play. Is she a woman wrongly accused as she claims in her most recent interview or as the Kardashians claim a ‘home wrecker’ against whom they have closed ranks? When a story involves two sets of people usually there are two sets of narratives and sadly truth gets sidelined in the attempt by both sides to ensure their version grabs the most eyeballs or as the case maybe in today’s world, gets maximum shares. In other ‘lighter’ news from around town there’s of course Taste Of Dubai to get local foodies in a tizzy but we are most excited about the release of Amitabh Bachchan-taapsee Pannu starrer Badla next weekend. There’s nothing like a revenge drama to draw us to the cinemas. Don’t forget to follow the hashtag #Citytimestakesyoutothemovies for your chance to watch the much anticipated thriller next Friday along with us. When she is not busy interviewing celebrities or watching movies, Arti Dani is training hard to be a running champ.
