Da-bangg tour is like a fun holiday: Sonakshi As we inch

Closer towards Bollywood’s big date with the Dabangg tour in Dubai, we speak to two of the principal stars from the concert, Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva

Sonakshi Sinha serenaded the audience with her earthy Indian look when she made her debut with Dabangg in 2010 starring Salman Khan and immediatel­y became a mass favourite. She also recently danced in the recreation of the iconic Indian song Mungda for Total Dhamaal. The original song featured Helen. Don’t be surprised if Sonakshi dances to this popular tune in Dubai on March 15 during Da-bangg: The Tour-reloaded. A host of Bollywood celebritie­s including superstar Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Jacqueline Fernandez, Prabhu Deva, Daisy Shah, Guru Randhawa and Manish Paul will set the stage on fire at Dubai Festival City Mall, South Festival Bay dancing to the greatest hits from the Hindi film industry.

Sonakshi is very excited for this tour; after all the concert is named after her debut film Dabangg, and she will be joining her Dabangg 3 gang including her co-actor Salman and director Prabhu Deva on stage. “Of course I am so excited! I have always received so much love from Dubai and its people... we have so many nationalit­ies who watch and love our films, so I’m looking forward to performing there,” said Sonakshi in an email interview with City Times about the highly entertaini­ng Bollywood dance-music extravagan­za.

Her Dabangg director Prabhu Deva who is considered one of the most talented dancers from the Indian film industry also echoed her sentiments. “Yes, I am so happy and full of enthusiasm to perform in Dubai. Performing anywhere always brings me so much of happiness and love and I can’t wait to entertain the UAE fans.”

The gang is coming to Dubai after performing in London, Hong Kong, Auckland, Melbourne, US, and Canada. The Da-bangg show is a successful franchise now. So what’s the best memory that Sonakshi can recall from the tour? “All the shows have been super memorable. The kind of energy our audiences have got has always been electric!”

The tour is a big budget production with superstars of the Indian film industry dancing and interactin­g with the audiences on their favourite dance numbers. Sonakshi added they work hard to make sure that nothing goes wrong and the fans have the best time seeing their favourite stars perform live in front of them. “It takes a lot of rehearsals to get the show right. But because this tour has been so successful and we have performed in so many places, we know the acts like the back of our hands!”

Prabhu Deva who has danced on favourite numbers such as Urvasi, Muqabla, Que Sera Sera, etc also spoke about the hard work that goes behind performing in dance shows. “We don’t count how many days we rehearse because there is a lot of hard work and effort that goes behind our training. Not just me but even other stars and technician­s give their everything to bring out our best.”

Prabhu Deva spoke about moments leading up the concert when the stars 3

spend time with each other sharing real moments. “The best memory is all of us traveling on the flight where we are all together. The atmosphere is so friendly. We are all like family, and nobody behaves like a star. Even moments leading up to the final act when we are in the green room, we share the same nervous energy even though I am mostly busy doing my stretches and warm ups.”
