One of the hardest lessons we are forced to learn in life is to let go - of people, things, emotions and places. It’s a lesson celebrities have a tough time learning as well. Taylor Swift’s historic showdown with celeb manager Scooter Braun and her recent outburst over his acquisition of her albums showcases her reluctance to face up to the fact that life changes and the contract you signed at 15 might not still be relevant 14 years down the line.
Then there is Kangana Ranaut who seems to be in no mood to give an inch to her ‘detractors’, real and imagined. Her latest video alleging certain sections of the Indian media were ‘anti-national’ for dissing her historical drama Manikarnika takes the cake. Obviously her inability to let go of her ego and accept dissenting views is proving problematic.
On our cover today we have Ed Sheeran, the multiplatinum scoring singer, with a scruffy man-about-town demeanour. His latest album No 6 Collaborations Project showcases his ability to let go of his romantic ballad style and reinvent himself by pairing up with the most unlikely collaboraters - be it Eminem, 50 Cent or Stormzy.
I’ve never been a huge fan of The Lion King, I admit. But the remake of the 1994 Disney movie that hits theatres this week has a lot going for it. Directed by Jon Favreau, the computer-generated animation boasts the voice-overs of Donald Glover (Simba), Beyonce (Nala), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa) and James Earl Jones (Mufasa). What’s really got me excited however, is the first listen in to Aryan Khan who voices Simba in the Hindi version alongside his famous dad, SRK. Now that’s a voice we could get used to hearing!
Have a great week ahead in the city!
