‘My Martial arts Training was limited’
Henry golding on THE Challenges and rewards of Taking up an iconic Character from THE G.I. Joe universe
actor Henry Goldi an iconic G.I. Joe he calls it “the gre ated.” The actor, who of hit films like L and Crazy Rich A feels a responsib the character of S Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, releasing th the UAE.
When asked how it’s been working o he says, “It’s been insane! It’s been ph been six months of my life, (laughs) it’s c month and a half of intensive sort of Ka all general sorts of martial arts. But it’s b ing journey. And the footage that we are this is unreal. The actual physicality of th real.”
Excerpts from an interview:
Do you feel a responsibility becomin character of Snake Eyes?
Oh for sure. I mean it’s G.I. Joe’s greatest created. So to be given the charge of, I w inventing, but visiting his character in a of lens and storytelling ability...we have give him more of a backstory, and I thi sort of ventures that have been for Snak Joe, there’s always been a sort of a shrou or there’s always been a sort of convolu his origin of why he was silent, or why h Arashikage. So it’s nice to be able to set i movie, what we think his journey was.
Did you have any reservations abou a character so iconic?
Of course. I was in two minds for sure. tor would be. It’s not a role to take light the responsibility of you needing to be physical character. And my martial art very limited, I did a little bit of boxing an so luckily I could move. But the type of sw sort of wire work that we’ve done with K — Fight Coordinator) is so different. I do are familiar with his last movies Rurou a big samurai series from Samurai X an movies. And they were like, oh we got t doing choreography, and I’ve seen thos seen the type of martial arts that they d most insane Katana work I’ve ever seen that’s what he wanted to inject into this.
So for me when Paramount approach kind of like, it’s not a role that’ll be easy, up and learn my lines and let’s go. It’s m physically be able to lead a movie like thi ally was like if we don’t push ourselves an our hardest and step out of our comfort never achieve the greatness that we wo of ourselves accomplishing. So it was a not taken lightly.
And what were those first few days training?
I cried. (Laughter) The training broke us. ber going home at night and just comp And there was a moment where I was lik am I doing, this is insane. I was literally lik four days, I was on the phone with my age everything, I can’t do anything, I need to I need to concentrate because hopefully But this has been insane.
Has it gotten easier?
It has, a tremendous amount. (laughter) W
