Why is it important to sponsor the designMENA Summit?
The designMENA Summit is a platform for forward-thinking designers in the Middle East to get together and address upcoming opportunities and challenges facing the industry in the region. At BSH Walls & Floors, we partner with many design firms for small and large projects on a regular basis. It is important for us to hear from those who attend the summit to understand how we can serve their needs better, and come up with out-of-the-box solutions that create more value for them. What do you think are the main challenges designers and architects currently face? Our part of the world is witnessing rapid changes in terms of technology, sustainability and the supply chain, which are transforming the architecture and design industries. As professionals in the industry, it is our responsibility to always stay updated on the latest advancements, and learn the full scope of the new tools on offer.
Technology and cloud computing, for example, has transformed how design firms can collaborate on a project globally with their peers. Sustainability is a big hot topic too, as everyone has a responsibility and we must see how we can limit climate change. The supply chain and movement of talent and products also has a significant impact on regional design industry. What excites you most at the moment about the regional design and architecture industry?
As you would hear it from most of designers in UAE, the constant change and upgrades in the construction scene have been incredible. You will not see this fastpaced change and adoptability in other cities around the world. The end result is that our local talent is flexible, creative and capable of doing a lot more. What topics do you hope are addressed at the designMENA Summit? I think topics like market analysis and market trends for the next two to three years would be interesting. Also, I would enjoy hearing about the opportunities and challenges that I covered above. What is your company currently working on? BSH Walls & Floors, with more than two decades in the UAE and the Middle East, has been ever-evolving. We have been extremely busy complementing our line with products that we think the architecture and design community would like. Apart from hospitality wall coverings, we are entering the hospitality floor covering sector with the creation of a new division in our company called BSH Hospitality Studio, where we will offer a custom designed selection of hand tufted and Axminster carpets.
