In the rst quarter of 2018, Sharjah Oasis Real Estate announced that it had handed over two power transmission and distribution plants, valued at $ 68m ( AED250m), to Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority. According to the developer, the plants have a combined capacity of 700MW, and are expected to power the entire waterfront community.
Describing the handover of the plants as “one of the most important infrastructure milestones” for the Sharjah Waterfront Community development, HE Sheikh Abdullah Al-Shakrah, chairman of Sharjah Oasis Real Estate, said that the infrastructure works within Sharjah Waterfront City included “the removal of 12 million cubic metres of sand to dig 3.5m- deep canals, with widths spanning 100-300m, as well as the creation of eight islands that helped to create 20km of new coastline and beachfront properties”.
Around ve million tonnes of rocks were moved and installed to create breakwaters and marina quays. Bridges and roads were also developed in addition to the power plants, Al-Shakrah added.
