Emirates National Oil Company Group (ENOC), a wholly owned company of the Government of Dubai has committed to lowering the carbon footprint while helping its clients do the same in line with the UAE Energy Plan for 2050.

ENOC’s alternate green diesel fuel Biodiesel5, launched in 2017, is being used for diesel engines and has proven to reduce carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. Made from vegetable oil, waste cooking oil and animal fats, Biodiesel5 provides businesses with the opportunity to reduce the domestic consumption of fossil fuels and contribute towards the region’s responsibility for environmental protection and sustainability.

In response to its sustainability quotient, ENOC’s Biodiesel5 has proven successful powering traditional abras for a period of three months on an experimental basis, which showed a reduction in the scale of emissions.

ENOC also stated that Biodiesel5 provides the same performance and energy efficiency as traditional diesel while improving lubricity and preventing premature engine wear.

Commenting on the product at the time of launch, HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi, group CEO, ENOC, said: “ENOC has continuously adopted sustainable measures by expanding its capabilities to reduce carbon emissions. As a national oil company (NOC), and in line with the UAE’s Energy Plan 2050, it is our responsibility to support, advance and positively impact the communities we operate in.

“By introducing Biodiesel5 in the commercial and industrial segment,

ENOC has pioneered yet another initiative amongst NOC’s. This product will not only help our customers gain operational efficiencies and reduce the emission level, but also bring us a step closer in adapting to the market changes and ensuring a diversified fuel mix to support the UAE’s goals and ambitions.”

The product, which has been tested in the UAE, is mainly used by companies for their new and existing trucks and heavy construction equipment without the need to upgrade the engines and fuel storage facility. With Biodiesel5 being non-toxic, it is also much less combustible than diesel fuel making it safe to handle, store, and transport.

“ENOC’S BIODIESEL5 HAS PROVED SUCCESSFUL POWERING TRADITIONAL ABRAS FOR A PERIOD OF THREE MONTHS ON AN EXPERIMENTAL BASIS, WHICH SHOWED A REDUCTION IN THE SCALE OF EMISSIONS.”
