TLC AND A FABULOUS MOONLIT DINNER IN THE REGION’S MOST LUXE DIGS? AL MAHA DESERT LUXURY RESORT & SPA IS WHERE IT’S AT!
Al Maha Desert Luxury Resort & Spa.
Just over 40 minutes from the heart of the city, and located in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, serene Al Maha Desert Luxury Resort & Spa is the perfect spot to celebrate the onset of winter. While I’m a huge fan of city life, there’s nothing quite like actually hearing birds and seeing Arabian Oryx and desert gazelles prancing at your doorstep as you’re sipping on a delish beverage in a private infinity pool. And don’t get me started on the views. With lush greenery, tumbling sand dunes and majestic mountains fringing the scenic vistas, I forgot I had a phone for a few hours. Digital detox at its best and just what the doc ordered.
The 42 Bedouin style private suites with unobstructed views of the royal Arabian Desert, are built to make the most of the natural surroundings. Warning: once you get into the bed, you may not want to get out of it... ever. I’m a mattress snob and Al Maha’s beds are the best I’ve experienced in the Middle East – no joke. The traditional Arab décor, in muted beiges and rich reds, dotted with antiques and handicrafts, beautifully complements the acres of natural vista at your doorstep. Our favourite part was the enormous wooden deck and temperature controlled infinity pool. Ending every day with a dip and a hot (rain) shower was utter bliss.
It’s hard leaving your room to go anywhere, but witnessing the sunset from the gorgeous Al Diwan restaurant is worth being
a little ways away from my dream bed and pool. From October 26 onward, Al Maha will be hosting a special Desert Moon Dinner once a month. After being picked up at a designated spot by a complimentary limo, you’ll be transported to desert paradise with a cool glass of bubbly, a starter and an extravagant spread of international and traditional offerings. And you can go right back home if you chose not to spend the night.
