DR UPASANA GALA

FOUNDER & CEO, EVOLVE BRAIN TRAINING

-

The most important organ in our body is a complex system of neurons and pathways. It’s where everything originates: the brain. And Dr Upasana’s life’s work is dedicated to demystifying it and using its potential to enhance, think deeper, feel better and create the magic you were always meant to. Working on promoting and actioning future-forward technology to help individuals and businesses reassess how they think and perform, Upasana’s work is incredible. After earning a doctorate in Neuroscience from the Baylor College of Medicine, she’s spending her life getting us know ourselves better. Wellness is all in the mind, with some heart and everything soul.

A FEW YEARS AGO, I DEVELOPED AN UNEXPLAINED SHOULDER PAIN…

…I went to so many different doctors and none of them could really find anything wrong with it. Eventually a neurologist suggested that I might be suffering from anxiety and one of the ways it was manifesting was though physical pain. I have always been physically healthy, working out and eating well. But like many others, I was not really taking care of my most important organ – my brain. That was when I realised that wellness really begins in the mind. A healthy attitude and a calm mind are key for our overall well-being. This is what got me started with brain training because when you change your brain, you change your life.

THROUGH MY WORK, I HELP PEOPLE FEEL SHARPER…

…calmer and happier. It’s almost like they develop new personalities, and it is such a joy to see that transformation. One of my favourite things is waking up to messages from my clients telling me how they are so much more in control of their feelings – that things that would have been hard to deal with in the past are now a breeze. It makes them more confident and even more engaged. Which in turn helps them pass on that positive energy to people around them creating more and more harmony in the process.

MY LESSONS:

“It gets easier.” Three simple words. Whether you’re going through a tough time or pursuing something new and challenging, it gets easier every single day. You have to be consistent and you have to do it every day. And if things seem too overwhelming at times, break them down into smaller steps. Every long journey is made of several small steps.

MY STRUGGLE…

As a scientist, I have always been trained to be accurate and get things exactly right. But starting Evolve Brain Training was my first foray into the business world. I was so afraid of failing and not getting things exactly right, that I was hardly getting anything done. And that was when I realised that we put too much pressure on ourselves to be perfect and that is a detriment to our progress rather than a virtue. Perfection really is the enemy of the good. And once I gave up that pursuit to make everything perfect, I actually started getting things done. Things are never going to be absolutely perfect and we cannot wait around for that. What’s important is to just start doing things, and then tweak them along the way and keep evolving! Same is true for our own personal growth.
