THE RULES

-

Don’t “drop in” – that is, don’t try to catch a wave if another surfer is already riding, or taking off closer to the curl or breaking part of the wave. Don’t “snake” – that is, if you’ve just had a good wave, don’t immediately compete with others for the next one. Instead, wait your turn, and make sure you don’t miss that turn when it comes. When paddling back out, make sure you do so in a way that doesn’t interfere with someone else’s ride. Go around or behind, not right in front. Be aware of changes in the line- up, as surfers of differing abilities and knowledge move in and out of the water. Think before tackling surf beyond your comfort zone – if there are a lot of surfers out, take time to watch and make sure you’re prepared for the situation before paddling out.
