Sekiro: Shadows die twice

Fromsoftware popularised the genre of Souls-like games and blazed a trial for spin-offs such as Nioh and The Surge after a wildly successful Dark Souls trilogy and the Gothic, Lovecraftinspired Bloodborne.

So, when it was announced that the next game was not going to be a Souls sequel, people got angry, real angry.

But its new game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a doozy. Set it feudal Japan in the late 1500s, you play as Sekiro — a disgraced and disfigured shinobi who embarks on a journey to rescue his young master, abducted by a samurai. Fromsoftware does away with traditional character customisations to put the gaming skills to the test.

Out in March. Playstation4, Xbox One and Windows.
