In 2020 the situation was turned upside down, and the company’s stocks jumped by more than 468%. In April, Moderna said it was beginning phase 2 human trials for its COVID-19 vaccine, which boosted its stocks by almost 12%, reserving a spot for Bancel for the first time in the three-comma-club with a net worth of around $1 billion. Bancel currently owns 6% of Moderna, down from the 9% he had at that time, as he sold some of his shares in late 2020.
