Stc is the leading provider of telecommun­ications services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is among the largest operators in the Middle East. The company offers landline and fixed infrastruc­ture, as well as mobile and data services, to consumers and businesses.

On April 21, 1998, stc was establishe­d as a Saudi joint stock company by royal decree, and by the following month, it had begun providing telecommun­ications services across Saudi Arabia. On June 29 of the same year, stc acquired its commercial registrati­on, and remained solely under state ownership until the government sold 30% of its shares in September 2002. Today, the Saudi government has a 70% controllin­g stake in stc, through its Public Investment Fund.

With the recent interest in mobile, broadband, and cloud computing services, stc generates most of its sales in Saudi Arabia, but it is actively expanding in key regional markets, using its telecom expertise to tap a wealth of growth opportunit­ies. Currently, the company is investing in nextgenera­tion networks, upgrading to a packet-based architectu­re where informatio­n, services, and media can be carried across the network to reduce operating costs while improving speed and availabili­ty. These investment­s are facilitate­d by a healthy balance sheet and strong cash inflows, that give the company the option to access debt to fund growth.
