Tips to treat some of the most common travel illnesses
Dr Asha Jones shares some home remedies for common health issues we might come across while travelling
Travellers’ diarrhoea: Drink a mixture of one tablespoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of fresh ginger juice 2-3 times a day.
Vomiting, usually cased by contaminated water, food or motion sickness can also leave a holiday ruined.
Sipping ginger tea (freshly ground ginger and even some honey in some boiled water) will reduce nausea or chewing a small piece of ginger, mint or cloves
controls the nausea and vomiting sensations. One quarter teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a glass of warm water sipped slowly will also help in calming the irritated stomach and reflexes.
Fever is often caused by low immunity due to tiredness, or stress after travel. Boil a mixture of one teaspoon of dried ginger powder, and one of black pepper powder in two glasses of water and reduce to one glass.
Divide this decoction into three equal parts and take three times daily before your meals. You can add a little honey if you want. Cinnamon is also an excellent immunity booster. Taking half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in honey helps in boosting immunity during fever.
Drinking boiled cumin seed water (1 teaspoon in 1 litre) will work as an antiseptic for any infections causing fever.
