STORY TELLERS

- Susan Rubin Varghese

A page for readers to share their views, thoughts and stories.

A summer trip to China reminded me that food can be enjoyed through home-cooking, that distant friends and family can remain close through gadgets, and that weekend-vacations and spa-days are solutions to relieve unnecessary stress. Feeling those holiday blues? Stay positive by reminding yourself what makes you happy!

Pick a hobby

Holidays are a great time for all. Relaxation, adventures, new delicacies... we get to explore them all. There are a number of ways we can happily return to work or school after an absolutely wonderful holiday. Firstly, we could take up a new hobby that might remind us of our beautiful break – like bullet journaling, which is an alluring and a precisely avant-garde activity that is deemed to be fancy. If art is really not your forte, you could go for scrapbooking, which is just a deluxe way of putting together all the memories collected on the trip, like photos, keychains and other souvenirs. Polaroids are also a great aesthetic way to recollect memories. Aarya Ajith

STAYCATIONS

We love our holiday breaks – they’re rejuvenating and give us a break from our otherwise tiring work schedule. Once back from our vacation, my husband and I make sure we go for walks to the nearby park or to the beach regularly. We also take time out for our dinner dates once every week which gives us an opportunity to experience new joints together in the city. It feels like a mini holiday at home but still away from home. REWIND!

Holidays mean lots of planning, exotic experiences, enjoying succulent dishes and planning the budget for the trip to ensure we have as much fun as we can. We can keep alive all our precious and wonderful moments by rewinding albums and videos, discussing about those bygone fabulous moments, spent with new people. My husband and I love to travel a lot. We can never get over the adrenaline-charged experience of parasailing we enjoyed in Mauritius. We always look forward for such memories to add to life.

Relive happy moments

Returning after a visit to Kerala was invigorating. The joy of spending time in the heart of nature, trying new things, giving to others and becoming a little better every day was a lovely experience. Although a lot of people were left in pain following the deadly floods, I could see that apart from the pain in their eyes there was also a tinge of happiness when they realised that their fellow beings are their greatest strength.

The thought of having been there with people who need our help, spreading the spirit of giving, togetherness and reflection is what keeps my holiday spirit alive.
