Why are women more bothered about the health of the men in their lives than the men themselves? Find out.

Women play a vital role in encouraging the men in their lives to stay healthy. Cleveland Clinic in the United States highlights in their new survey that there is a disconnect between the sexes when it comes to staying on top of their health.

Released as a part of Cleveland Clinic’s third annual educational campaign titled MENtion It, the survey aims to address the fact that men often do not mention health issues or take steps to prevent them.

The two online surveys studied approximately 2,000 US men and women 18 years or older. The study findings showed that 83 per cent of women said they encourage their spouse/significant other to get their health checked once a year and 30 per cent of men consider themselves as healthy and do not go for checkups.

‘When it comes to the health of their husbands, fathers, brothers, or sons, women are often the health decision-maker in the family,’ says Eric Klein, chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute. ‘Many of our male patients admit to only seeing their doctor after their significant other has encouraged them to go.’ KEY SURVEY FINDINGS:

Six-in-ten (61 per cent) of men have neglected to visit a doctor even when they needed to go.

Only about half (47 per cent) of men under the age of 35 regularly do testicular self-exams.

More than half (56 per cent) of men prefer to keep health concerns to themselves and not share them with anyone.
