2019 WILL BE ALL ABOUT IFS, BUTS AND MAYBES
Should I or should I not? For the sake of clarity, I am talking about making resolutions. The pressure of keeping them has always been so immense that in the past few years I have copped out. No resolution, no guilt. But this year, after reading so many howto, self-help and inspirational articles and interviews, including the one on page 24, I feel it’s about time I made at least one resolution. One that I can achieve easily, without much sweat and pain, perhaps (you get the hint – rigorous exercise and strict diets will not figure in my long or short list.)
So while drawing up a list of what my resolution should be, I decided to involve the team, thinking, just like dealing with any other problem, it helps to have a support group.
‘Let’s all make a resolution,’ I said. ‘And we could help each other keep them,’ I added.
‘I don’t know how one can improve on perfection, so not sure if I am going to make one,’ says Anand, Friday’s features editor, in a matter-of-fact tone. Since I don’t believe in violence in any form, I just rolled my eyes in response.
‘What’s the point,’ asks Shreeja, who in her precious free time would rather alternate between reading a book, catching up on sleep and eating her way through her grandma’s cooking. No carrot or stick will get her out of her comfort zone, if she so wishes to stay there.
Zahra’s response was equally eloquent – a snigger. The girl has enough willpower to

manage her resolutions and therefore doesn’t feel the need to borrow from someone else.
It’s clear this is one journey I will be making on my own. It is an overwhelming thought but I guess I need to embark on this journey for my own sake.
Now I need to finalise what it is going to be... Suddenly I don’t like December.
