HEAD FOR A SAUNA TO IMPROVE YOUR HEART HEALTH

-

Spending time sweating in a sauna is a good investment for maintaining a healthy heart. Sauna use helps in lowering the blood pressure, a factor that when not kept in control can raise the risk of heart disease and death. However, consult a doctor before following this regimen. Regular sauna sessions can reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD) in people aged 50 years and above, according to scientists. The heat triggers an increase in heart rate in a similar way as seen in low to moderate intensity physical exercise, opens blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. However, the researchers believe further studies are needed to understand whether these findings could apply to other populations.
