What’s the good word?
Caulk. Is that even a word? Well, I am neither an articulate plumber – yes, they would definitely know what it means – nor am I a Spelling Bee champion who has sponged the entire OED, especially all the five-letter words and I am in sulk mode as I write this. You get my drift? In case you didn't, CAULK was the answer for Wordle puzzle 242 and I got it in the last try, my worst performance in Wordle until now.
The creator of this web-based word game Josh Wardle, we are told, had love on his mind when he created the game for his girlfriend Palak Shah, who is a fan of word games. In the interview on page 26, Wardle says the game serves the purpose of a tonic offering a certain sense of accomplishment especially on days when nothing else seems to be going right or the tedium of everyday life offers no excitement.
Clearly not in my case.
It is causing me sleepless nights and sour demeanour, especially on days when family and friends score better – which is most days. To be honest, all the inappropriate four-letter words come to mind when I play this game.
By the way, I was not this kind of a person earlier (or should I say in the Before Wordle era?). I used to be a benign crossword-solver until a friend introduced me to Wordle saying crossword is for bored grandmothers. Mind you, neither of us are ageists, but I'm definitely a sucker for challenges. And the rest as they say is history.
The only pleasure I am getting out of

this right now is that I am doing better than my colleague Anand, who happens to be a wordsmith par excellence and a gentleman for he wouldn't sneer at me or troll me on days when he does better.
Let me know what you think...
