This fun cafe in the heart of Dubai’s hipster art district has long been a firm favourite with the vegan crowd. The cafe’s ethos centres on nutritious, unprocessed and plant-based food. It started its early life in Paris as a detox drinks brand, but found a foothold in Dubai with its range of inventive salads, raw desserts and cold-pressed juices. It’s also something of an oasis in the middle of Alserkal’s industrial hub, boasting a leafy indoor setting.

The menu is an ode to all things guilt-free, and features unique dishes that are light and fresh. Our tip? Try the spring wraps and the Buddha burger (pictured page 50).

PINZA IN A NUTSHELL

Vegan pizza delivered straight to your door.

Vegan pizzas, anyone? Though it seems a direct contradiction to everything a pizza stands for – as much cheesy goodness as possible – there is apparently such a thing as delicious vegan pizza. Pinza has become synonymous with just that, with a loyal following of pie fans here in Dubai. They offer vegan cheese and vegan sausage (along with the regular animal varieties), complemented by fresh vegetables and herbs, and a crunchy, healthier base that’s made up of 80 per cent water and 20 per cent flour. Delivery only, Business Bay and JVC, Satwed 10.30am-1am, Thu-fri 10.30am-4am. Tel: (800) PINZA (74692), pinza.com

Indulgent comfort food classics given a clean, green makeover in Silicon Oasis.

Silicon Oasis may not be the first destination that pops to mind when considering a meal out, and indeed even when you get there, Roots isn’t exactly easy to find, but it is absolutely worth the journey. Roots Bistro offers a menu brimming full of vegan eats and healthy alternatives to classic dishes, complete with locally sourced produce and a passionate team of creatives. BAREBURGER IN A NUTSHELL

When you want to sink your teeth into a meaty, but meat-free, burger.

If you’re more flexitarian than full-blown vegan, there may be times when you crave a juicy, medium-rare beef burger. The global phenomenon Beyond Burger is here to satisfy those meaty cravings, without any meat. Designed to look and taste like the real deal, the Beyond Burger patty is made purely with plant products (primarily peas, potato and beetroot), and comes with vegan mayo and American cheese. Bareburger also offers vegan sausages and vegetarian burgers made with sweet potato, chia and other meat-free marvels. La Mer, City Walk and DFC, daily 10am-11.30pm. Tel: (04) 343 7110, bareburger.com

GOVINDA’S IN A NUTSHELL

Spiritually sound Indian dining in Karama.

Though not strictly vegan, Govinda’s prides itself on being Dubai’s only sattvic restaurant (a diet based on foods in Ayurvedic and yoga literature, intended to cultivate a calm, clear and compassionate mind). The quirky menu is an eclectic spin on traditional Indian food, but also places prominence on fresh, healthy and raw foods. While the menu does feature some animal protein, it is mostly diet-conscious, low-calorie and high-protein, and there are plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. There aren’t many Indian restaurants in Dubai, or anywhere, where you can get that kind of service.

Behind Regent Palace Hotel, Opposite Burjuman Centre, Street 4A, Al Karama, daily 12pm-3.30pm, 7pm-12am. Tel: (04) 453 5259, mygovindas.com

VURGER IN A NUTSHELL

Crushing those burger cravings in the comfort of your own home.

This JLT kitchen is part of Deliveroo Editions, so it’s only available for delivery, but its lack of dine-in space shouldn’t be a deterrent. Your ‘vurger’ will be made with the likes of cauliflower, chickpeas, or black beans, and filled with tasty, fresh ingredients. There’s a Meat(less) loaf made from mushrooms, walnuts and broccoli, and the Neatball Sub with lentil and walnut balls in a rich tomato sauce. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, you’ll discover their range of dairy-free shakes and smoothies. Delivery only, JLT, Dubai, daily, 10am-9pm.
