ONE GIANT LEAP FOR THE UAE
MEET DANA AL BLOOSHI, A 13-YEAROLD AUTHOR AND ASTRONAUT-IN-THEMAKING. YES, REALLY
THINK YOU’RE A PRODUCTIVE PERSON? Take a look at Dana Al Blooshi. She’s barely over a decade old and is already juggling school work, astronaut training, and penning her first book *starts rapidly writing to-do list*.
The prodigy is the youngest Emirati to have undergone training courses with NASA – she began aged nine – and has received a number of certificates and awards for her achievements at the US space agency. Has she always wanted to be an astronaut? “No, I discovered my interest in space about four years ago,” Dana admits to Grazia. “Everything about space interests me – the solar system, the stars, the planets and the Moon. Above all, what interests me is that you can learn something new about space every day. There are things that are yet to be discovered that I would love to learn about.”
But not content with being an astronaut-in-training and star of Grazia’s Generation Z Power List, Dana, who was born in 2005, by the way, is also penning a book that is set to be released in March next year. Why now? “I always get asked who inspires me, so my book is dedicated to 13 Arabian women. It’s about the different ways they motivated me to reach my goals and the different roles of these women in my life.” Dana adds, “I’m extremely proud of it and I hope to become a successful author – and an astronaut, once I reach the adequate age!”
Finally, what advice would the soon-to-be-the-youngest-authorin-the-UAE give to other young people hoping to achieve their goals? “Never give up, because you can’t achieve anything in life if you are not determined,” she reflects. “Secondly, I would say that age never limits your dreams. You could be 12 years old but think like a 20-year-old. You can do whatever you want at whatever age.” Wise words from the young pocket rocket.
