Highly paid bankers less happy than hairdressers

Almost a third of people are unhappy at work, with managers, lawyers and bankers among the least satisfied, researchers have said.

The happiest employees are hairdressers, with three out of five looking forward to going back to work after a day off. Beauty therapists, childcare workers and plumbers were also among the most satisfied.

Workers earning less than £15,000 (Dh105,000) were far happier than those in the £40,00 to £45,000 income bracket, according to the survey of 1,000 adults by City & Guilds. The organisation’s “happiness index” showed that many bosses believed their staff were actually less satisfied with their jobs than was the case.
