First court martial of woman army officer begins
A general court martial (GCM) — the first in the country against a woman army officer — commenced here yesterday as Dimple Singla prepared to defend herself against graft charges. No further hearing could be held after the defence lawyers objected to the convening order of the GCM. The hearing will now be held tomorrow. Singla had retired from the judge advocate general branch of the Indian Army on March 7. She was referred for GCM after an army court of inquiry found she had sought money from an army man facing murder charge.
