Seven officers tender unconditional apology

Seven officers of the Islamabad administration and police yesterday tendered unconditional apology before the Supreme Court over last month’s incident of manhandling suspended chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

A three-judge bench, headed by acting chief justice Rana Bhagwandas, said it would consider the apology after hearing the case in detail and adjourned the proceedings to April 25.

The court issued amended contempt charges against the officers after Attorney General Makhdoom Ali Khan informed the bench that the April 4 indictment was made under a 1967 Act that had been superseded by a contempt of court ordinance promulgated in 2003.
