Zamil commission­s new steel plant in Ras Al Khaimah

Dammambase­d Zamil Steel — a global leader in the design and manufactur­e of pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs) — yesterday commission­ed a Dh175 million plant in Ras Al Khaimah.

Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, inaugurate­d the new factory, which has a capacity of 40,000 metric tonnes per annum of preenginee­red steel buildings, open web steel joists and floor decking. The second phase of the factory, scheduled to be operationa­l by the end of 2007, will add an additional 12,000 metric tons per year of steel lattice towers.

The new facility, set up on 250,000 square metres of land leased by the company in the new industrial zone at Al Jazeera Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah, is equipped with the latest and most advanced technology available. Complete technical, engineerin­g and administra­tive department­s are also available to meet customer needs.

The new plant has also been integrated into the Zamil Industrial Investment Company’s (ZIIC) IT network, streamlini­ng the production and delivery processes of the finest quality steel products.

Dr Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al Zamil, chairman, Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC) said that setting up of the RAK plant was an important step in Zamil Steel’s ongoing global expansion initiative. “Ras Al Khaimah was chosen specifical­ly due to its strategic location to some of our important markets and to assist our Saudi Arabian factories on meeting the increasing demand in the UAE and surroundin­g markets,” he added.

He said that the factory will also produce, in addition to PEB, open web steel joists, composite steel decking as well as galvanised steel towers for electrical transmissi­on projects and telecommun­ications.

“We are proud that today this factory joins Zamil Steel’s global chain of factories including six in Saudi Arabia, two in Vietnam and one each in Egypt, India and China,” he said.

Zamil Steel manufactur­es 250,000 metric tonnes of fabricated steel per year of low rise and high rise steel buildings and structures for industrial, commercial, agricultur­e, aviation, entertainm­ent and military applicatio­ns.
