Gazprom aims to extend Greek contract

The head of Russian gas company Gazprom held talks in Greece yesterday about extending the country's longterm gas contract from its current expiry date in 2016 until 2040, Gazprom said.

It said in a statement that Greece’s development ministry estimated 80 per cent of the country's gas supplies come from Gazprom, which is Russia’s monopoly exporter.

Gazprom supplied around 2.74 billion cubic metres of gas to Greece last year and expects demand from the electricity sector, industry and consumers to reach 6.5 billion cubic metres by 2010.
